Today I am finally sitting down to give you my little review on MAC's Strobe Cream. I decided to go for the travel size (30 ml/1.0 oz) before I get the big version. Obviously, it would have been cheaper to go for the big size in the end, but I wanted to spend 10€ on this and it was crap, rather than spending 33€ on the full size and it was crap.
The Strobe Cream is described as a "ultimate quick fix for the skin that de-snoozes, de-stresses, moistens, freshens and boosts the look of dull, flat or tired-looking skin with a fully loaded vitamin zap and a mega dose of green tea. It brightens and clarifies with iridescent particles and antioxidants. Enhances the effects of light on all skin and in all lighting conditions from sunlight to spotlight."
I do fully agree with MAC's own description of the Strobe Cream. As some of you may know if you read my blog, I mentioned in my NYX Liquid Illuminator post that I have been looking for something like a moisturizer or a liquid highlighter that I could use under my foundation to give me that healthy, sexy J.Lo glow without looking like I put a ton of highlighter all over my face. I said that the NYX Liquid Illuminator was not what I was looking for when it comes to particularly doing what I just said. Well, the Strobe Cream does.
As you can see it comes out of the tube like a normal moisturizer would, and the consistency reminds me of a basic, standart moisturizer as well.
What you can see when I rub it in is that it give me a subtle glow without being super overpowering. I do believe that if you have a heavy duty foundation with maximum coverage, and you put the Strobe Cream on your face before the foundation, the glow might get lost since it is very subtle. If you do want to boost your full coverage foundation and give it a bit of a glow, I think it would be a lot better to mix it together on your hand or a mixing palette before putting it on your face. The way I use it is under my foundation since I tend to use little coverage foundations like the Bobbi Brown skin foundation.
I have to say the scent of the Strobe Cream is not my favourite but it does not linger around on your face, you can barely smell it.
What I also did with the Strobe Cream is use it without foundation. When I have good skin days with a minimum of dark circles under my eyes and I go out bare-faced, I tend to take a bit of MAC's Strobe Cream and put it on my cheeks like a highlighter and a bit down my nose. It gives a nice glow to the face looking a lot more natural than a powder highlight or even a liquid highlight since it is more of a moisturizer kind of thing. I have to say that the lasting power is not as great as with a liquid highlight though. It does sink into the skin after some hours and will get more and more subtle as the day goes on, which is totally fine to me on days where I want to look natural.
I haven't tried it too many times yet but it has not broken me out yet which is always a good thing. Nobody wants break-outs from their beauty products, am I right? So definitely a repurchase product for me, next time in the full size though.
